Raku

Raku pottery is a Native American pottery technique that uses horsehair to create designs on the surface of the pot.  The vessel is fired in a gas kiln outdoors, the pot is taken out of the kiln at 1300 degrees, the horsehair is laid across its surface; as the hair burns black marks are left in the clay.

Horsehair raku is not food safe.  For decorative use only.

Have a special horse in your life? I'd be glad to create a custom piece with your horse's hair.
